Job Purpose:
  • To work as part of the Design team developing systems from conceptual ideas through drawing, justification to codes and standards, manufacturing, testing and support of field technicians. To provide technical leadership on commercial and development projects by taking technical responsibility and accountability. To provide guidance and mentorship to other members of the Design team.

Main Responsibilities
  • Applies Engineering principles, experience and expertise to the design of machinery and equipment including pressure equipment, mechanical systems, hydraulics, and structural components.
  • Based on a diverse range of existing technologies, leads colleagues to:
    • Ensure current products are deployed appropriately and safely to suit client requirements.
    • Modify existing products to suit a tailored set of client requirements.
    • Innovate new solutions to solve unique challenges a client may be experiencing.
  • Assists with the training and development of Design Engineers and Trainees.
  • Maintains good working relationships internally with other departments and externally with clients.
  • Keeps abreast of developments within the industry and helps to ensure STATS remains seen as a leader in their field.
  • Ensures Engineering design packages are in full compliance with customers’ requirements and all relevant codes and standards and carries out final approval of design packages.
  • Produces conceptual designs and detailed engineering analysis using available methods.
  • Prepares design specifications for new products to meet client and industry requirements.
  • Prepares assembly drawings, manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Advises and instructs operations staff with respect to testing and assembly of equipment.
  • Attends client meetings as required, identifying design engineering requirements and processes to meet client needs.
  • Adheres to project objectives, budget, schedules and deadlines

Individual Quality and Safety Responsibilities:
  • To comply with STATS and Client quality, safety and environmental management systems and procedures at all times.
  • Ensure high quality documentation including calculations are produced and checked/approved for all work undertaken that demonstrates fitness for purpose.
  • Ensure compliance with design practices / templates / guidelines / standards and approved processes throughout STATS
  • Ensure all accidents / incidents / near misses / hazards are immediately reported and relevant paper work is completed.

Experience / Competence / Skills / Knowledge
  • BSc Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience within the Oil and Gas industry.
  • Design experience from first principles.
  • Design experience to pressure vessel/pipeline codes and standards including ASME B31.4, B31.8, B31.3, ASME VIII Division 1 and 2.
  • Competence in 3D modelling and drafting, proficient with Autodesk Inventor.
  • Familiar with Process Plant or Pipeline Interventions work such as hot taps, repair clamps, isolations either inline or branch installed and temperature or corrosion considerations.
  • Experienced and competent in checking and approving Engineering design packages.
  • Experienced with FEA techniques.
