STATS Group’s global footprint and success in exporting skills and services was recognised at the Northern Star 2025 Business Awards in Aberdeen.
The company received the Going Global award - against stiff competition - in the annual awards run by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce in partnership with legal firm Brodies.
The award recognised “a company that has demonstrated significant and sustained international growth through a clear understanding of overseas markets, proving that borders are not a barrier to trade”.
STATS demonstrated that a globalisation strategy has been a key feature of the successfully growing business over the past decade and has involved significant investment in facilities, technology and people in North America, the Middle East and Asia Pacific, and this year opening operational facilities in Saudi Arabia.
Andy Norrie, STATS Group Head of Sales and Business Development for Europe, said: “The emphasis has consistently been on developing local capabilities that create in-country value, provide rewarding employment opportunities, and contribute positively to local economies.
“STATS has implemented a strategy focussed on local presence in key energy regions, allowing for the maintenance and refurbishment of isolation and intervention equipment close to our customers, therefore ensuring a highly responsive and cost-effective service. The company’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint, further emphasised the necessity of establishing a genuine global footprint and maintaining teams and equipment within its countries to effectively deliver services.”
In 2023 STATS recorded a 27% increase in annual revenue to £75 million of which 87% of revenue was generated from outside of the UK.
Andy Norrie added: “The move towards localisation has allowed STATS to strengthen relationships with customers due to being in closer proximity as this enables quicker response times, a more personalised service and enhanced promotion of the group’s pressurised pipeline isolation, hot tapping and plugging services in several international markets. Regional leadership teams are empowered with the trust, authority, and autonomy necessary to achieve success, while staff members are more engaged with the overall strategy that is implemented at the local level.”
Andy accepted the Going Global award on behalf of the company in front of 900 guests at a reception hosted by BBC presenter Edith Bowman at the P&J Live arena.
Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce chief executive, Russell Borthwick, said: “These awards reflect what a brilliant place the north-east is to live, work, study, visit, invest and do business. The Northern Star awards provide a unique stage to showcase and celebrate the brilliant work being done by businesses from all sectors, of all sizes, and from across the length and breadth of our fantastic area.”
The award follows an earlier success in March when STATS was named recipient of the Outstanding Skills Development Award at the Offshore Achievement Awards.
