The Tecno Plug® is a non-intrusive, inline isolation tool that provides fully proven, double block and bleed pipeline isolation in accordance with the most stringent topside and subsea isolation guidelines.

STATS Tecno Plug is the market-leading DNV Type Approved pipeline isolation tool.
The single module plug provides a compact and robust design that enables the tethered Tecno Plug to be set in space restricted locations, allowing launcher / receiver maintenance or valve changeouts without shutting down production.
Two large section elastomer seals provide tested, proven and monitored isolation of pipelines, with a zero-energy zone for true double-block and bleed isolation. All locks and seals are self-energized by differential pressure maintaining a fail-safe isolation and backed-up by the hydraulic control system.

The tethered and remotely operated Tecno Plug are regularly used to isolate pipelines transporting oil, gas and refined petroleum products on sites across the APAC region. The Tecno Plug is compliant with H2S (Up to 10% concentration at temperatures less than 80°C) and compliant with ISO 15156.

Tecno Plug
In-line isolation plugs require no welding or cutting into live lines, leaving no residual fittings or hardware on the pipeline. This eliminates project costs associated with fittings, welding and inspection and reduces the risk of leak paths from buried pipeline flanges post operations.

Independently Verified
The Tecno Plug provides a cost-effective isolation solution, while maintaining high levels of safety during maintenance activities. The tool is fully certified by DNV to verify that the design criteria satisfies the requirements for pipeline isolation plugs to provide dual seal and isolation in accordance with offshore standards; DNV-OS-F101 (Submarine Pipeline Systems) and recommended practices; DNV-RP-F113 (Subsea Pipeline Repair) and in compliance with the following code; ASME BPVC Section VIII, Division 2.
Reducing Venting & Flaring
Alongside their safety benefits - and the enhanced efficiency they bring to repair or maintenance projects - temporary pipeline isolation tools like the Tecno Plug can significantly reduce venting and flaring activities by limiting the isolation area and preventing entire pipeline from being depressurised – avoiding the discharge of significant quantities of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
STATS isolation technologies have been independently verified to deliver significant carbon emissions savings compared to venting a pipeline for repair and maintenance.

Remote Tecno Plug
The Tecno Plug can also be supplied as a remote-controlled, tether-less isolation tool that provides leak-tight, double block and monitored isolation.
Additional Benefits
- Robust system for safety critical activities. Certain Remote Control Modules can be made available for use in a Zone 2, Potentially Explosive environment. The communication antenna and field cable are available for use in a Zone 1, Potentially explosive environment.
- Through-wall communication is achieved using an extremely low frequency (ELF) inductive system for reliable tracking and accurate positioning
- Remote Tecno Plug does not use lithium batteries, negating the need for emergency response procedures for the transportation or use of extremely hazardous materials
- Subsea communication via acoustic link (3000m depth rating)

The remotely operated Tecno Plug system is a piggable, remote-controlled, tetherless isolation tool providing double block and monitored isolation. The remote control system provides a high degree of flexibility and eliminates the need for tethers or specially modified pig-trap doors.
Through-wall communication is achieved using an extremely low frequency (ELF) inductive system for reliable tracking and accurate positioning of the Tecno Plug and an onboard hydraulic power pack provides the necessary actuation and control functions for the tool.
The Remote Tecno Plug has been successfully deployed in a number of on and offshore settings – providing high-integrity isolation for safety-critical activities.
Unpiggable Pipelines
For unpiggable pipelines, STATS have also developed a patented pigging bypass system that allows two isolation plugs to be pigged towards a blind centre. This system allows a section of pipeline to be isolated where full bore access is unavailable due to a defect such as a pipeline buckle or dent.
Reinstatement Pressure Testing
Following the successful isolation of a pipeline, it is often necessary to carry out reinstatement pressure testing of the repaired or newly installed pipeline components. The Test Plug is an extension of the Remote Tecno Plug isolation train and provides a barrier that allows the newly repaired section to be pressure tested to the pipeline code test pressure, before the isolation is removed, independent of the Tecno Plug isolation.
