Job Purpose:
  • To work as part of a design team developing mechanical systems from conceptual ideas through drawing, justification to codes and standards, manufacturing, testing and support of field technicians. To develop new technologies and to advance existing products in the oil and gas services industry.

  • Assigned Draughtsperson and Graduate Engineers

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Applies Engineering principles, experience and expertise to the design of machinery and equipment including mechanical systems, hydraulics, structural components and control systems.

  • Based on a diverse range of existing technologies, leads colleagues to:

1. Ensure current products are deployed appropriately and safely to suit client requirements

2. Design modifications of existing products to suit a tailored set of client requirements

3. Innovate new solutions to solve unique challenges a client may be experiencing

  • Assists with the training and development of Design Engineers and Trainees
  • Maintains good working relationships internally with other departments and externally with clients
  • Keeps abreast of developments within the industry and helps to ensure STATS remains seen as a leader in their field
  • Ensures engineering design packages are in full compliance with customers’ requirements and all relevant codes and standards, and carries out final approval of design packages
  • Produces conceptual designs and detailed engineering analysis using available methods
  • Prepares design specifications for new products to meet client and industry requirements
  • Assists with the preparation of assembly drawings, manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials
  • Advises and instructs operations staff with respect to testing and assembly of equipment
  • Attends client meetings as required, identifying design engineering requirements and processes to meet client needs
  • Adheres to project objectives, budget, schedules and deadlines.


Individual Quality and Safety Responsibilities:
  • Ensure high quality drawing and related documentation are produced within the department
  • Ensure compliance with design practices / templates / guidelines / standards and approved processes throughout STATS
  • Ensure compliance with company safety procedures and proactively report at least two observations to improve safety in each calendar year
  • Promote and uphold the highest standards of ethics in compliance with Company’s Code of Conduct and Business Ethics Policy.
  • To comply with STATS and Client quality, safety and environmental management systems and procedures at all times.
  • Ensure all accidents / incidents / near misses / hazards are immediately reported and relevant paper work is completed.

Qualifications
  • BSc Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 - 10 years of relevant experience, within the Oil and Gas industry, subsea experience would be an advantage 
  • Design experience from first principles · Design experience to ASME pressure vessel/pipeline codes and standards; B31.4, B31.8, B31.3, ASME VIII Div 1 and 2 
  • Familiar with Process Plant or Pipeline interventions type work such as hot taps, line stops, welded fittings, repair clamps, isolations either inline or branch installed and temperature or corrosion considerations. 

  • Competence in 3D modelling and drafting. Proficient with Autodesk Inventor 

  • Experienced and competent in checking and approving engineering design packages 

  • Experienced with FEA techniques, ANSYS preferred. 

  • Excellent analytical skills 

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
