Job Purpose:
  • To fabricate and weld various STATS tools and equipment whilst operating various fabrication and welding equipment in a safe manner while ensuring that a quality product is produced at all times.
DIRECTLY REPORTS TO:
  • Fabricator Supervisor
along with:
  • Fabricator/Fitters
External Relationships
  • QC, Technicians, Welding Engineers, Client

Main Responsibilities
  • To weld products, tools and equipment to standards/procedures set out by STATS and STATS customers/clients.
  • Review and follow requirements as set out on drawings, welding procedure specifications and STATS standard procedures
  • Work is primarily in a shop environment, with potential for some periodic field work
  • Work in a safe manner at all times to protect all colleagues, clients and visitors on site.
  • To carry out the movement of material/equipment within the shop area.
  • To ensure that all defect to material, components or equipment is reported to the Fabricator/Welder Supervisor.
  • Ensure all relevant drawings, procedures and instructions are to the latest revisions, prior to work commencing.
  • Aid in the proposal and introduction of new fabrication/welding techniques to improve productivity or safety.
  • Help with training of apprentices.
  • To liaise with the Fabrication Supervisor on any issues arising.
  • To report any environmental and health & safety issues that arise.
  • To work within STATS standards and company procedures at all times.
  • Any other duties required by the Fabricator/Welder Supervisor.
  • Help in the proposal and introduction of new safety equipment.
  • To maintain material certification and traceability for all material used.
  • To support other departments as and when required.
Individual Quality and Safety Responsibilities:
  • To comply with STATS and Client quality, safety and environmental management systems and procedures at all times.
  • Ensure all accidents / incidents / near misses / hazards are immediately reported and relevant paperwork is complete.
Experience 
  • Ability to work as part of a small focused team working to high standards with client lead times being the delivery driver.
  • Flexibility and shift working on occasions required.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings/specifications etc.
  • The use of fabrication and welding equipment and test tools in a safe manner.
  • Ability to use inspection equipment.
  • Understanding of various methods of fabrication and welding.
  • Skill in planning methods of fabrication and welding.
  • Ability to use lifting equipment effectively.
  • Understanding of environment and health & safety.
  • Competent level of understanding in:
    • Engineering terminologies
    • Fabrication and welding equipment
Qualifications
  • B-Pressure Ticket issued by ABSA
  • Current or ability to obtain WPQ for all position welding in combination of F3, F4, F6
  • Red Seal Jouryneyman ticket would be an advantage
  • Mechanical trade with good all-round understanding of fabrication and welding techniques.
  • Welding experience using any of SMAW, GMAW, FCAW and SAW
