Pipeline Retrieval Tool
Safe, Controlled Pipeline Recovery for Repair, Tie-In or Decommissioning
When a subsea pipeline is damaged, buckled or flooded, the affected section often needs to be recovered to the surface before repairs can begin - and doing that safely, without further damaging the pipeline, takes purpose-built equipment.
Our Pipeline Retrieval Tool (PRT) provides a secure, fail-safe connection between the pipeline and the recovery cable, available in diver-deployed or ROV-operated configurations to suit the water depth and vessel spread on your project.
Solving Subsea Pipeline Recovery Challenges
STATS' Pipeline Retrieval Tool gives pipelay and construction teams a secure connection point between a damaged pipeline and the recovery cable, engineered to the client's exact pipe specification and available to purchase directly rather than drawn from a rental fleet.
Pipeline Retrieval Tools are valuable assets that provide contingency in the event of accidental damage or flooding of the pipeline during pipelaying operations. If the pipeline has to be abandoned on the seabed, PRTs can be rapidly deployed to dewater the pipeline and recover it back to the vessel, avoiding lengthy project delays.
Configurations
The PRT is available in two configurations. Choose diver-deployed for projects within diving range, or ROV-operated where water depth or vessel spread call for a diverless approach - both use the same fail-safe taper lock mechanism.
Diver Deployed
Diver Deployed Configuration
For projects within diver depth range, the PRT can be installed and operated directly by dive teams already in the water, without the added logistics of an ROV spread.
How It Works
- MECHANISM: The same fail-safe taper lock used across the PRT range, holding the connection independent of hydraulic pressure once set.
- DEPLOYMENT: Up to 300m for saturation diving. Installed directly by divers, suited to shallower water projects where a dive team is already mobilised.
- DE-WATERING: The integrated seal and vent system allows the pipe to be de-watered prior to the lifting operation, carried out as part of the diver-led installation.
- PIG CATCHER: Can be configured with a pig catcher to aid recovery of dewatering pigs.

ROV Deployed
ROV Deployed Configuration
For deeper water or projects prioritising diverless operations, the PRT can be configured for ROV deployment, extending recovery capability beyond standard diver depth limits.
How It Works
- MECHANISM: The same fail-safe taper lock mechanism as the diver-deployed configuration, adapted for ROV installation and monitoring.
- DEPLOYMENT: Rated to 2000m water depth. Suited to projects where water depth, safety policy, or vessel spread favours a diverless approach.
- DE-WATERING: The same integrated seal and vent system, operated and monitored via the ROV rather than by divers directly.
- PIG CATCHER: Can be configured with a pig catcher to aid recovery of dewatering pigs.

Local Everywhere
Instead of flying people and equipment all over the world, we've set up fully-functional bases in nine strategic locations. These bases enable us to employ local technicians, work with local manufacturers, and invest in local economies. They're a significant investment, but our regional bases are key to delivering the best possible service for our clients - and minimising the environmental impact of our work.
COMPLEMENTARY PRODUCTS AND SOLUTIONS
Complete Your Pipeline Repair Toolkit
Pipeline retrieval is often just one part of a wider repair or platform project - explore STATS' complementary isolation and intervention tools and services below.
Subsea BISEP Line Stopping Tool
Before a damaged section can be recovered, the line often needs to be isolated first. BISEP delivers leak-tight double block and bleed isolation via a single hot tap intervention.
Subsea Remote Tecno Plug Isolation Tool
For inline isolation of subsea pipelines ahead of retrieval, the Remote Tecno Plug provides fail-safe, leak-tight isolation on live, pressurised pipelines.
Emergency Pipeline Repair Systems
Emergency pipeline repair systems that combine the procedures, processes, equipment and personnel needed to minimise unexpected downtime and protect your operation.
