Sustainability
Committed to a safer industry and a lower carbon future
We are committed to incorporating sustainability into our core activities - not as a compliance exercise, but as a genuine driver of how we operate, innovate, and grow. Since establishing our Sustainability Policy in 2020, we have built an integrated programme that assesses and measures our social and environmental impact across every region in which we operate.
Our sustainability strategy is aligned with 10 of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - a globally recognised framework for creating a better, more sustainable future for people and the planet.

Sustainability Strategy
Our Approach To Sustainability
STATS Group’s sustainability strategy is built on four core pillars, each aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals across the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) framework. This integrated approach ensures sustainability is embedded across every business function and region in which we operate.
People & Society
Our people work in demanding conditions across the world. We hold ourselves to high standards on safety and wellbeing, actively work toward a more inclusive workplace, and try to leave the communities where we operate, better than we found them.
Economic
We grow deliberately, not just fast. That means building local supply chains in every region where we work - cutting the international freight burden, creating jobs closer to where they're needed, and forming partnerships built to last.
Environment
We track what we emit and work to reduce it. Our technology also directly helps clients - each time our isolation tools are used in place of venting, substantial volumes of greenhouse gas stay in the pipeline rather than the atmosphere.
Innovation
Our engineers are already working in hydrogen and carbon capture as live projects - not future planning. We played a leading role in the world's first isolation of a high-pressure in-service hydrogen pipeline. The energy transition is underway, and we're in it.
In addition to these four pillars, three underlying themes run across everything we do:
Commitment to Safety

Continually striving to implement higher levels of safety into our industry.
Operational Excellence

Exceeding client expectations by consistently delivering on our commitments.
Business Principles and Ethics

Conducting all our business and decision-making in accordance with the highest standards of business ethics.
Long-term Partner
A Global Partnership
In July 2023, Mitsui & Co. - one of Japan’s largest global trading companies - made a strategic investment in STATS Group. For a business of Mitsui’s scale and global reach to choose STATS as a long-term partner is recognition not only of our commercial strength and technical leadership, but of our shared commitment to responsible, sustainable business practice.
Case Studies
Reducing Emissions In The Field
STATS Group technology doesn’t just keep pipelines safe - it actively reduces the greenhouse gases released during pipeline maintenance. These two projects demonstrate what that means in practice.
In The News - National Gas, UK
24x
Emissions reduction vs. traditional venting
IGEM Product of the Year - Innovative Pipeline Isolation Technology
A Remote Tecno Plug was deployed to keep a 48" diameter pipeline fully pressurised at 55 bar across 56km during replacement of an insulation joint - replacing traditional venting or recompression operations. The result: just 9.5 tonnes of gas discharged versus 233 tonnes if venting had been used. Carbon savings equivalent to taking 1,000 cars off UK roads or switching off 1,760 gas boilers for a year. Installation and testing took 24 hours; traditional pipeline recompression would have taken six weeks.
Case Study - OQ Gas Networks, Oman
350km
of pipeline that would have required venting
A complex, first-of-its-kind operation in Oman with no disruption to gas supply and boosting OQGN's decarbonisation performance. Dual Remote Tecno Plugs were deployed on a 48" gas transmission line in central Oman for OQ Gas Networks (OQGN), pigged 25 kilometres to the isolation point to safely tie in two newly constructed gas processing plants while the line remained fully pressurised. A repair of this type would have required the entire 350km pipeline to be hydrocarbon-free and nitrogen purged - with time, cost and environmental implications. Our approach significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions compared to venting the pipeline.

STATS Group won the Outstanding Skills Development Award at the 2025 Offshore Achievement Awards, recognised by over 20 employers for best-in-class training and competency.
Sustainability - STATS Group's new SureTap® Plug eliminates long-standing completion safety risk in hot tapping operations
Hot tapping has always ended with a single, untestable seal - a gap operators knew about but couldn't engineer around. The SureTap® Plug is the first completion plug to offer full double block and bleed protection at that final stage, with dual independent seals that can be verified before anyone is exposed to risk.
Sustainability Programme
How We Govern Our Approach
STATS Group’s sustainability programme is coordinated by a dedicated Sustainability Steering Group, with senior representatives from across the business - spanning People & Society, Environment, Economic, and Innovation. This cross-functional group provides leadership, coordination, and guidance to ensure that sustainability principles are embedded throughout the organisation’s activities in all regions.
Our Chief Executive Officer is directly accountable for delivering our Sustainability Strategy, as approved by the Board of Directors, and reports regularly on progress against our sustainability objectives.
We’ve been building this programme systematically since 2020 - establishing our Sustainability Policy, forming the Steering Group, completing Scope 1 and Scope 2 data collection across all regions, and conducting a full staff diversity survey with a detailed action plan. Our sustainability journey continues to mature as we embark on our three-year growth programme in 2025.
