Job Purpose
-
The Design Engineer is responsible for the engineering design, analysis, and documentation of heavy fabricated equipment such as pressure vessels, piping systems and process equipment, ensuring full compliance with ASME codes, NACE standards, applicable pipeline codes, and customer specifications. The role ensures designs are safe, manufacturable, cost-effective, and aligned with project delivery timelines.

Main Responsibilities
Engineering Design & Code Compliance
- Prepare detailed design calculations, drawings, and technical documentation in compliance with:
- ASME (Section VIII, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8 as applicable)
- NACE standards (MR0175 / ISO 15156 for sour service)
- Applicable pipeline codes and international standards
- Client specifications (e.g., Aramco, ADNOC, EPC requirements)
- Perform mechanical design calculations including thickness, stress analysis, nozzle loads, supports, and reinforcement.
- Ensure all designs meet safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
3D Modeling & Drafting
- Develop 2D drawings and 3D models using software such as AutoCAD, and SolidWorks.
- Generate GA drawings, fabrication drawings, isometrics, and BOMs.
- Ensure proper revision control and document management.
Material Selection & Corrosion Considerations
- Select appropriate materials based on process conditions, corrosion, and NACE requirements.
- Ensure compliance with material standards (ASTM, ASME, API).
- Review material test certificates (MTCs) for compliance.
Interdisciplinary Coordination
- Coordinate with Production, Planning, QA/QC, and Procurement teams.
- Provide technical support during fabrication, welding, and inspection stages.
- Clarify technical queries and resolve shop floor issues.
Customer & Vendor Interface
- Review and interpret customer specifications, datasheets, and RFQs.
- Interface with clients, third-party inspectors, and consultants for approvals.
Design Review & Validation
- Conduct internal design reviews and ensure compliance before release for fabrication.
- Support HAZOP / design risk assessments where applicable.
- Ensure proper documentation for code compliance and audits.
Documentation & Deliverables
- Prepare and submit:
- Design calculation reports
- Drawings (GA, fabrication, as-built)
- Material specifications and BOM
- Data sheets and technical submittals
- Maintain proper engineering document control system.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for design optimization and cost reduction.
- Standardize design practices and templates.
- Stay updated with latest code revisions and industry best practices.
Individual Quality and Safety Responsibilities

To comply with STATS and Client quality, safety and environmental management systems and procedures at all times.

Ensure all accidents / incidents / near misses / hazards are immediately reported and relevant paperwork is complete.

EXPERIENCE / Competence / skills / knowledge
- Proficiency in design & drafting software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks preferred)
- Strong understanding of:
- Pressure vessel and piping design
- Welding techniques and WPS/PQR requirements
- Fabrication processes and limitations
- Knowledge of FEA tools is an added advantage
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- 5–10 years of experience in design of heavy fabricated equipment
- Strong working knowledge of:
- ASME Section VIII, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8
- NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156
- Experience in oil & gas, EPC, or fabrication industry
