Job Purpose
The ASME Pressure Vessel Welder/ Pipeline Inservice welder is responsible for the fabrication and welding on pressure vessels in accordance with the standards and codes set by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME/API 1104. This role involves reading and interpreting blueprints and welding procedures, preparing and assembling components, and performing high-quality welds using various welding processes (e.g., SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW). This role involves high-risk, high precision field work and requires exception safety discipline and welding craftsmanship under live plant conditions.

Main Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and ASME/API 1104 welding procedure specifications (WPS).
- Perform welding tasks on pressure vessel components/Pipeline using SMAW, GTAW, GMAW or SAW in accordance with ASME/API standards.
- Assemble and fit-up components using fixtures, jigs, and clamps.
- Inspect workpieces for defects and conformity to specifications using measuring tools and visual inspection techniques.
- Maintain qualifications per ASME requirements.
- Ensure proper joint preparation and cleanliness prior to welding.
- Collaborate with QC personnel and inspectors to ensure compliance with ASME/API code and internal quality standards.
- Maintain accurate records of weld logs, heat numbers, and material traceability.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in both shop and field environments.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including PPE use and safe operation of welding and fabrication equipment.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support lean manufacturing practices.
Individual Quality and Safety Responsibilities
- To comply with STATS and Client quality, safety and environmental management systems and procedures at all times.
- Ensure all accidents / incidents / near misses / hazards are immediately reported and relevant paperwork is complete.

EXPERIENCE / Competence / Skills / Knowledge
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to read blueprints.
Demonstrated Proficiency in various welding techniques including SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW and oxy-fuel cutting.
knowledge of ASME codes and standards, especially Section VIII Div 1, ASME B 31.4, ASME B 31.8, B 31.3
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols.
Familiar with material identification, heat number tracking, and NDE methods (RT, UT, PT, etc.).
Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physically capable of lifting heavy objects, standing for long periods and working in confined spaces or elevated positions.
Participate in site Safety briefings, risk assessments, and job safety analysis prior to all work.
Working Conditions:
- Shop/industrial environment with exposure to welding fumes, heat, and noise.
- Use of PPE including helmet, gloves, respirator, and safety glasses is required.
- May require overtime and weekend work depending on project deadlines.
Qualifications / Certifications
- High School / Technical school certification or formal welding training preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in welding ASME pressure vessels.
- Valid ASME Sec IX /API 1104 Welder Qualifications.
