Job Purpose

To perform hydrostatic pressure testing of fabricated components such as fittings, Clamps, Connectors, pipes using hydraulic test equipment, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, project specifications, and safety standards.

 

Directly Reports To
  •  Production Supervisor

Internal Relationships
  • Planning, Production, Quality, Engineering

Main Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate hydrostatic testing equipment, including hydraulic pumps, pressure gauges, valves, and test rigs.
  • Conduct hydrotesting of fabricated items as per approved procedures and standards (e.g., ASME, API, client specifications).
  • Ensure proper filling, venting, and pressurization of test components to eliminate air pockets.
  • Monitor pressure levels and hold test pressure for specified durations as per test requirements.
  • Inspect for leaks, pressure drops, or structural deformation during testing.
  • Record and document test results, including pressure readings, duration, and observations.
  • Coordinate with QC Inspectors for test witnessing and approvals.
  • Ensure all test instruments are calibrated and in good working condition.
  • Prepare test setups including blinds, gaskets, fittings, and connections.
  • Safely depressurize and drain systems after completion of testing.
  • Maintain housekeeping and ensure safe working conditions in the test area.
  • Follow all HSE procedures, especially related to high-pressure systems.

 

Individual Quality and Safety Responsibilities
  • Strictly follow safety procedures during hydrotesting due to high-pressure risks.
  • Use appropriate PPE (helmet, gloves, face shield, safety shoes, etc.).
  • Ensure barricading and safety signage around test areas.
  • Ensure all unsafe conditions /accidents/incidents/near misses/hazards are immediately reported and relevant paperwork is completed.

EXPERIENCE
  • Diploma / ITI / Technical certification in Mechanical or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in hydrotesting within fabrication, oil & gas, or heavy engineering industry.
  • Familiarity with pressure testing of piping & pressure vessels.

 

Competence / Skills / Knowledge
  • Knowledge of hydrotest procedures and pressure testing techniques.
  • Familiarity with international codes and standards (ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, API standards).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and P&IDs.
  • Experience handling hydraulic pumps and pressure gauges.
  • Basic understanding of calibration requirements for testing instruments.

Personal Qualities 
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in recording test results.
  • Good communication skills for coordination with QC and production teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong commitment to safety practices.
