Job Purpose
-
The Quality Engineer is responsible for leading quality assurance and quality control activities across the UK & Europe region, ensuring products, projects and processes comply with customer, regulatory and company requirements. This role acts as the focal point for quality engineering matters from project award through manufacture, inspection, testing, certification and final delivery. The Quality Engineer will supervise Quality Control and Welding Inspection personnel, drive continuous improvement initiatives, oversee non-conformance investigations, manage supplier quality performance and review Manufacturing Record Books (MRBs) and certification packages to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulatory requirements.

Main Responsibilities
Leadership & Quality Management
- Lead, supervise and develop QC inspectors and welding inspectors.
- Establish departmental objectives and KPIs aligned with business goals.
- Provide quality engineering expertise and technical guidance across the business.
- Review quality requirements for bids and tenders and generating any quality deliverables to support tender submission.
- Promote a culture of quality, compliance and continuous improvement.
- Mentor and support personnel involved in quality activities.
Quality Assurance & Control
- Ensure compliance to ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001C Standards.
- Ensure all inspection and test activities are completed in accordance with approved procedures.
ITPs and client requirements

Review and approve inspection reports, quality records and release documentation.
- Coordinate third-party inspectors, notified bodies and customer witness activities.
- Support internal and external audits and regulatory assessments.
Welding Quality Oversight
-
Support Engineering and Manufacturing on WPS, PQR and welder qualification requirements.
- Maintain oversight of welding qualification records.
- Support welding quality investigations and corrective actions.
- Ensure welding inspection requirements are adequately planned and executed.
- Maintain a non-destructive test procedure register.
Certification & MRB Review

Review and approve Manufacturing Record Books (MRBs) prior to issue to clients.
- Review manufacturing dossiers, final certification packs and equipment record books for completeness and compliance.
- Verify material certification, traceability records, NDT reports, pressure test records and manufacturing documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable statutory, customer and industry requirements including PER and PED where applicable.
- Support compilation of technical files and Essential Safety Requirement documentation.
- Liaise with clients, third-party inspectors and certification bodies regarding certification activities.
Supplier Quality
-
Supporting project quality deliverables with the Project Engineering team including but not limited to ITPs, Quality Control Plans, forging procedures and weld procedure.
- Support supplier qualification, auditing and performance monitoring.
- Review supplier quality performance and participate in supplier improvement activities.
- Chair pre-production meetings and supplier quality reviews where required.
- Review subcontractor documentation to ensure compliance with purchase order and project requirements.
NCR & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure all NCR's are effectively managed through to closure.
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions.
- Analyse quality trends and identify improvement opportunities.
- Promote lessons learned and best practice across the business.
Individual Quality and Safety Responsibilities
- To comply with STATS and Client quality, safety and environmental management systems and procedures at all times.
- Ensure all accidents / incidents / near misses / hazards are immediately reported and relevant paperwork is complete.
Internal Training Requirements
STATS mandatory courses including:
- Environmental Awareness
- COSHH Awareness
- GDPR Awareness
- Management of Change
- Near Miss Reporting
- All other relevant courses
STATS Internal Course - Basic Level:
- Tecno Plug, BISEP, Remotes, Hot Tapping etc.

EXPERIENCE / Competence / skills / knowledge
- Strong project engineering & manufacturing process knowledge.
- Supplier management and quality experience preferred.
- Able to interact with all levels of personnel within STATS.
- Computer literate (various Microsoft applications)
- Extensive experience within sub-contractor machining and fabrication environment.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Ability to work to deadlines.
- Good level of understanding in: material & equipment specifications; certification requirements / document standards; engineering drawings; engineering terminologies.
- Awareness of Environment and Health & Safety responsibilities
Qualifications
- ISO 9001 Lead Auditor qualification or equivalent experience.
- Experience within engineering, manufacturing or oil and gas industries.
- CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector desirable.
- Professional registration with an engineering or quality institution.
- Experience of PER/PED compliance requirements.
