STATS mechanical pipe connectors provide a cold-work solution, removing the associated risks of welding. Quick and efficient to install, this permanent solution significantly reduces maintenance duration and provides a cost-effective solution for piping repair, tie-in or capping of redundant pipework.

The Terminal Couldn't Stop. The Pipework Couldn't Wait.

When a Norwegian oil terminal required sections of 18" piping to be replaced, the priority was to find a permanent connection solution that removed the associated risks of welding, could be installed without specialist tools or equipment, and allowed the plant to continue operating throughout.

A First for the Norwegian Sector

STATS' Norwegian distributor was engaged to supply the solution - the first time STATS mechanical pipe connectors had been deployed in the Norwegian sector. Two 18" connectors were supplied directly to the end client, with Fabtech appointed as the installation contractor.

Fabtech conducted a site survey and took responsibility for producing the pipe spool before carrying out the installation at the plant.

In and Tested, Plant Still Running

The connectors are simple to install and require no specialist tools or equipment. Fabtech completed the installation with the plant continuing to operate throughout.

Once installed, the integrity of each connector was verified using the integrated seal verification ports, which provide access to the annulus void between the seals, allowing a pressure test to be conducted and confirming a leak-free connection on both units.

Proven in Norway, Ready for What's Next

Both connectors were successfully installed and verified, delivering a permanent cold-work solution on the 18" piping while the plant remained in operation.

For the Norwegian sector, the project marked a first - and demonstrated that STATS mechanical pipe connectors can be deployed effectively through a local supply chain for terminal maintenance and piping replacement scopes, with all parties working seamlessly together.

This project was successfully delivered due to great teamwork from all parties to work seamlessly together, demonstrating the significant safety benefits of mechanical pipe connectors as a cost-effective pipe connection solution.
